Een verontrustende ontwikkeling zijn de rechtzaken die, met name in de Verenigde Staten, recentelijk zijn ontstaan zoals o.a. de DeCSS zaak en gebaseerd op de DMCA wetgeving. Dit bedreigd de vrije ontwikkeling van nieuwe technieken en beperkt onze historische vrijheden op het moment dat we die ook met nieuwe technieken willen uitoefenen.
